How Career Lab Live and Fundoria work together
Career Lab Live Corporation is a nonprofit. Fundoria LLC is a separate, for-profit company that builds and runs a K-6 financial literacy game platform. Our after-school program and summer camp use Fundoria's games. The curriculum inside those games, and everything around them, is Career Lab Live's.
Who does what
Each organization has its own job. Neither does the other's.
Nonprofit
Career Lab Live Corporation
The educational side: curriculum and programs
- Creates the school modules
- Owns all of the curriculum content, both inside the games and outside them
- Pays the curriculum experts who write and review that content
- Holds the relationships with the industry professionals behind our career content
- Runs every field trip, after-school program and summer camp
For-profit company
Fundoria LLC
The technical and operating side: the game platform
- Builds the game platform: the games children play in a web browser, with nothing to install
- Runs and maintains the platform, including the staff dashboard and the family view
- Provides the platform as a vendor to Career Lab Live
How the licensing is meant to work
The arrangement runs in both directions. Fundoria's games are to be licensed to Career Lab Live for use in our programs. Career Lab Live's curriculum content is to be licensed back to Fundoria for use in the games.
Status of the agreements
Neither license between the two organizations has been signed yet, and no fee has been set. Terms are to be set at market value and are governed by Career Lab Live's board of directors.
Why we spell this out
Patrick Arnold, Career Lab Live's founder and executive director, also leads Fundoria LLC. That makes this a related-party relationship: one person has a role on both sides.
We disclose it here so that schools, families and funders can see exactly how the two organizations relate, who owns what, and that any money moving between them is to be set at market value and governed by Career Lab Live's board of directors, not by one person.
What children and staff see
Children log in and play in a web browser. Program staff use a dashboard to see who is taking part, open the week's game for the group and print certificates. Families can be invited to a family view.
The platform is built and run by Fundoria LLC. Program staff sign in to the dashboard at portal.fundoria.us.
